Hello there, and welcome to “Miss Mindy May!”
Before launching into content, I would like to introduce myself and to explain a little bit about what I want to do here with Miss Mindy May. To that end (you might have guessed this part), my name is Mindy Mayden. I am originally from Corpus Christi, Texas, which will always be home, but I am currently based out of the great city of Houston. I am a University of Houston student majoring in Creative Writing with a minor in Marketing. I decided to start this blog, after a couple less successful attempts, because I have drawn inspiration from my favorite blogs for a long while, and I would love to provide that same inspiration for my readers. I also find that the realm in which my two academic interests (Creative Writing and Marketing) most harmoniously align is that of Internet blogging!
My goals with Miss Mindy May are two-fold. One of those is to post preppy style content, which I feel motivated to share because preppy dress is commonly conceived as being only present in the East Coast area. Not many people in Texas are creating this type of content, but, being from a coastal city myself, I am living proof that there is interest and that it is possible for a Texan to be just as preppy as your average East Coaster. I can’t get enough navy, seersucker, gingham, and nautical anything!
The next goal I have, both for this blog and for my life, is to spread a love of writing and an appreciation for literature. Not to get too sentimental, but the works I have read have shaped who I am as a person, and I think it is important- vital, even- for others to broaden their ideas through literature. Through this blog, I hope to spread book recommendations, reviews of readings I attend, the latest happening bookstores, and perhaps even some bits of my own creative endeavors as I explore Houston’s literary scene.
I know that the above goals, like all good things, will come in time. To start off with, I feel like a good way for us to get to know each other is through a six week series where I post weekly about a uniquely Houston event that I attend. These events may range from art exhibits, to the aforementioned readings, to new and exciting restaurant experiences. I think this will be a great way for me to give some recommendations and get an idea for what you want to see out of me and out of this blog!
Summed up, I am an aspiring author, a college sorority woman, and a preppy gal in South Texas who is ready to embark on this new journey with you by my side!
